One of my hostess duties is to welcome all
to the forum and help members to enjoy their latoc experience. Cool

Seeing as I started posting yesterday I should probably introduce myself.

My name is Eric.  I'm a home schooling, running a business, getting ready for PO, looking for land, fish oil loving, stay at home dad.

LATOC and theoildrum are my addictions.  The fish oil seems to help.

Not sure but I think I first started reading these forums when they were on Yahoo Groups.

After a recent topic, where fellow members aired their satisfaction with the like-minded people on the forum ,I knew I should join.

A little intro-- I'm 27 with a family and am about a year away from earning my BS degree in Social Work. While PO is fairly new to me (only learned of it last spring), I have been quite aware of many of the other ills for some time--military-industrial complex, prison-industrail complex, the Freudian psyops of advertising . . .

I guess I didn't even know what a young goat looked like. I thought that was some sort of exotic Australian animal or something.

Ok here I am. PO aware for a little over a year.

I had seen "The Inconvenient Truth" and then realized there was something even worse with PO.
So now I sold my Mc Mansion in Florida and moved back home to Michigan. Seriously downsized and bought mortgage free.

So, I've been lurking for a year and just registered a few days ago.

I read everything and cycle between total panic that it will crash hard tomorrow and then think is will be a long slow crash.
My wife is somewhat onboard but is more concerned with current bills and such (which is good).

Peace

Hey, Lurkers & Newbies: welcome.

One of the best things about registering is the "Show unread posts since last visit" link. Really helps to efficiently keep up-to-date.

Hell, yeah; I don't know how you read the forum without it. You'll find that after a few days that you'll have a mental map, and the update feature really helps.

I click the "replies to your posts" so see if any of the threads I add to are active, then the "unread posts", which keeps you up to date on new stuff. Otherwise, it's
easy to get lost in the stream.

This place is like drugs I'd think.  Lurking is interesting.  Then you join and taste it a bit... Make a post or two...  Next thing you know you're stealing bandwidth at work and time at home to feed the "need to know". Then you've spent a few thou on prep...  Spouses and kids start to notice and then pitch in and help - and want to learn too. Before you realize it you've become prepared for any damned thing that comes along.  If you're REALLY  hooked you learn to see things in the futures markets that others miss because they're frigging sheep and you make money faster... only to use it to feed the prep habit.  Nasty cycle - I'd recommend it to anyone!

lmao.  Good job, Michelle.  That's one BIG little goat.  Grainy, too.

Welcome, newbs.  Post a bunch of really good stuff in existing threads so you can become non-newbs.  Notice I said existing threads, hehe.

Lurkers are cool.  Got a call from one once, when I posted my phone number.  Offered to feed me with corn and pig.  Yes, there was context for it.  Too bad I lost his number. . .

I usually do the "unread replies" button, then the "unread posts" link after I've worked through that, and finally I might hit up a sub-forum or two that I'm interested in at the moment.  Also I see other threads I want to read or reply to after I've posted on one.  That's why this forum takes up so much of my time.

Here's an idea.  Why don't we all stop being total assholes around here and see if we can help one another survive the times to come?

No?  Nevermind then.  Carry on without me.
