Not dead, except brain dead occasionally.  Nightshade in smaller doses is usually under the name Belladonna.  Women would take it to dilate their pupils to make themselves more attractive.  Small doses are good for pain.  I gave it to my youngest son for teething.  Worked better than Scotch.  He loved.  I loved it too
